So I just had a Spanish White Faced Bantam hatch 3 chicks, and as I was watching her in her nest with the new babies, I noticed that she kept sticking her head under her belly and "scratching" it I guess you could say. I took her off the nest just out of curiosity to see what was bothering her and there I saw SO many fleas and larvae! I dont know how i didnt see it before. Out of panic i took the nest box and tossed all the infested straw into the lake in my backyard. ( might not have been the smartest idea ) I checked the nest box that my Black Cochin was in with her duck eggs and same thing, just fleas and larvae everywhere! I have never experienced fleas with chickens before. To be honest, I didnt even know that fleas lived up here in Oregon. My dogs have never had fleas since we moved here from Texas. Whats the cheapest and most effective way to get rid of the nasty things?
