I wanted to ask how far does the cry of the peacock mating call carry and how many mouths does it last? Also can one do anything to keep them quite at night, I plan to lock them in the coop at night and have it insulated but, would using sound proofing foam be better to not keep the neighbors form having to hear them all night during the mating season?

6 months of calling around here and honestly i would not get them if you are worried about bothering a neighbor because you will have to keep them locked up in the day time also cause they call day and night, mine only call at night when they hear something or a automobile come into the area like my daughter coming home and she lives across my driveway from me, they call when i start the tractor, lawn mower, dozer truck just about any thing that gets their attention, i whistle for my dogs and they call LOL

I waited decades to get my peafowl because i wanted everything to be just right so i could enjoy them without worrying about them, in my case i waited because i wanted to try to raise them off the land in a free range atmosphere

I have a male that still didn't make the mating call this season, he is almost 6 years old now, i bought him 5 weeks ago with another 4 males, all the other males are calling and mating but he is still silent. I think he was sick when i got him but after treating him he looks fine now, he will fan his train sometimes but still never made any mating call.

Was he penned with a bunch of other males when you purchased him?
Is he penned with other males at this time or next to males he can see?

He was the only peacock in his pen with 2 hens, and now he is still the only male in his pen but i penned some peachicks with him because i thought he will not breed this year.. There is a male in the next pen, and there are peachicks in the other side. But he barely sees this male, there is a green mesh fencing between these pens.

This was him last week:

And here is the only time i got him while he is fanning:

I thought to ask many people are telling me that a peacock is not much worse than a roster and also that if on 35 acres it should not bother my next door neighbor to much.

The best thing to do is to ask your neighbor if it would bother them. Before I got peafowl we asked the neighbors if they were okay with that.

Here is an article that might help: http://bamboopeacock.com/Noisy_Peacocks.html

To me they don't sound annoyingly loud or annoying at all, but some people seem to really hate the noise they make so it can be good to check in with neighbors first.

My distant neighbors can hear mine at night if they go outside , and they can hear them in the daytime if they are outside and not at work, i have no visible neighbors but do have some way across the creeks and reservoir and that is a mile at the very least. folks move out in farming communities need to be prepared to hear farm noises just like city folks have to listen to a neighbors yapping dog LOL
