Curious as to how loud your Roos are. We found out, through this lovely forum, that one of the birds is a cockerel. I want to keep him. Wife does not. Town doesn't allow cockerels. Are they really that loud? Will they go all day making noise ?

Thanks.

Yes, they can be loud. Dependent on the bird how loud and if they are an all day crower or not. But as soon as day breaks, before sun rise, they crow and there is no way your getting around that. Might try and look into a crow collar. I don't have experience on how well they work.

As cockerels they are not that loud and actually comical sounding with the preteen boy cracking voice. Really trying to get that crow out but usually a sad attempt in the beginning.

If you are not allowed roosters where you live, please do not try to keep one. Folks doing things like that make it harder for backyard flocks to be allowed in suburban and urban areas. Rooster are noisy, they can crow any time of the day or night. I don't know distances, but in my area properties are one and two acres and my roosters competitively crow with the birds three properties away.

Our cockerel started crowing softly when around 4-5 months old. You could barely hear him at 6:30 am. In the following 2 weeks he got much louder and earlier. After weeks of the 4:30 am crows, I found him a new home where they don't mind the noise. We have another EE cockerel that is starting to crow softly. I love the idea of having a roo, but I want one less loud. hope we can keep this one.
