Hi All,

I have been hearing a lot about the bird flu lately. Everything from the news to radio to local feed stores.
Seems like everyone is in a panic of some sort.

I have been keeping chickens for 5 years now, all doing well.

For those who have been at this a lot longer than I have, how much should I really be concerned about
the bird flu? I don't want to be too concerned if it really is not warranted but don't want to let my guard
down either.

Some perspective would be great. What things could I do to prevent anything from getting to my bird (besides locking them in cages) and what things are of good common sense without going overboard?

Flock Background.
- BO's 13, hens 1 rooster
- clean water and food daily
- have an inclosed run and pen
- outdoor pen provided for nicer days and weather under large shade tree.
- wind bird feeders are at least 100 yards from the chicken enclosure.
- no bird baths or ponds near chicken pen.

photo of chicken pen and outdoor area, if helpful.
