In the Brooder
Sounds like something more complicated. I would consult a veterinarian. Oyster shell has worked for me to strengthen their shells.

Honestly my ducks were barely laying at all, and they're up to 3 eggs per day after four or five days of increased food and oyster shell added to their food. I have never used calcium supplements. But back to food. According to Dave Holderread's food chart, laying ducks should be getting .4 - .5 lbs of food each per day depending on their breed and optimum weight during laying season. Which for me and my 11 ducks (10 hens 1 drake) is 5 quarts of food, or 2.5x what I was feeding them. So I don't know if food quantity could be a factor. I have also added crushed oyster shell to their feed and their shells have gotten thicker.
That does seem like a lot of food! I had no idea ducks ate cooked veggies and steamed rice! Is it a good idea to feed them dog food? Who knows what goes into that dog food!!!Balanced Minerals are important.
Animal Protein is important.
Digestible carbs are important.
I'm feeding free choice oyster shell from scratch & peck. My girls will NOT touch the yellow bags of Manna brand grit or oyster shell. 4 of them were going through 5 lbs of oyster shell in a couple of weeks. I have no idea what's different about scratch & peck oyster shell.
My hens just started laying in December. I didnt start getting reliably even sized eggs until I started the following:
can of dog food once to twice a day depending on weather & temps. The colder it was the more dog food i offered. Grain free dog food, venison/tripe or venison/fish flavor.
mix of cooked potatoes, carrots and beets daily topped with the morning/nightly balanced food ration
Free choice millet. Free choice lentils.
Steamed white/brown/black rice on bad weather extra cold days (below 20 or high windchill days).
I know it seems like a lot of food. I had very little wastage.
