Hi

Please help am ignorant about oyster shells, didn't even know we could get here, but have found a place that does fine powder is this ok? or must they be 'gritty'

Thanks as always

As long as you can get them to eat it powder would be fine. Most use the grit stylr because its multipurpose. Ways to get a bird to eat a powder such as this or DE.
1) mix in with regular feed. - issue is linited amount actually consumed.
2) mix in with a mash of regular feed
3) sprinkle on wet treats such as fruit etc. i also found that if i spray a bunch of weed trumming with water and coat those with a dusting it works great.
4) mix in with something like yogurt.

I have only done this with DE

Thanks all for replying. I am in South Africa, you would think we could get oyster shells but its impossible and they only sell by the ton and I have only six bantams!!! and it is very expensive. Don't know if I can try something else?

Anyway thanks very much you always are such a help

After much research, I have found Oyster Shells. I had to refuse the Chinese offer of 3000 tons, with profuse apologies which won't stand me in good stead should they take over Africa. Anyway I found a Japanese restaurant in Town, and over a bottle of very fine Saki (eish that stuff is potent) we agreed I would take all the oysters shells at no cost.

So I spent the afternoon in a delightful haze smashing the shells and my girls just love them, yeh

Good find! My only recommendation would be to either steam or boil them for a minute or so at some point. Since they are fresh shells they could possibly harbor some nasties
