Howdy from an Urban Homesteader

Welcome to BYC, Victoria! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sounds like you have a nice variety of animals! Wow moving from Texas to Belgium is quite the move! That's very cool that you live there! I've always wanted to travel to that area.
Love all my animals, though the younger Collie is a little chubby and one of our chickens is currently in isolation.

Belgium is lovely and relaxing, I rarely have anywhere to be which means I can do so many projects and be around my animals. It's not like Germany or France where visiting is a nonstop whirlwind of museums and such. Stuff closes down at around six PM and there's tons of bars so you can sit down with one of our 2000+ beer types and relax.

Here's a current photo of the flock. Went and got a Columbian Plymouth Rock and a Production Red today, bringing the count up to five hens and a roo.

Your"Production Red" is actually a Red Sex Link pullet rather than a Production Red. Red Sex Links are produced by crossing red gene roosters (like Production Reds) with silver gene hens and can be sexed by color, both as chicks and as adults. Adult males are mostly white with some red leakage in the saddle area. Adult females are reddish with white underfluff and white feathers in the tail (like yours). Production Reds lack the white feathers in the tail. The good news for you is two fold: 1st that we can tell you Red Sex Link is a female by just a glance at its colors, and 2nd, while Production Reds are excellent layers, Red Sex Links are even better layers (egg laying machines).

See I noticed once I'd posted that it was a Sex Link. XD They don't pay as much attention to breed names here unless they're the fancy kinds (like Polish, d'Uccles, etc.) so a lot of the time breeds are under one name and they turn out to be something totally different. Not uncommon in most places now that I think of it, we used to have the same issue in Texas feed stores.

You posted correctly when you posted that is was a Sex Link. Sadly, the employees of feed stores rarely know much about the breeds or gender of chickens.
