coop door

Installed my advanced chicken door opener this morning.  All the setup was easy, including setting it to open & close 1/2 hour after sunrise & sunset according to my latitude & longitude.  The installation for me (not very handy) was the pits.  This motor has a hinged door instead of the removable one that the Chicken Guard has & I could only attach the top & bottom screws easily on the left hand side.  On the right where the door is hinged I could not get the top one in because of the wires that are attached to the door.  I'm thinking they should come off like mentioned above, but will check with the company.  The bottom screw went in crooked, because it's hard to access as the motor housing & the door get in the way.  It seems secure, but I am going to work on it.  I contacted the company & they assured me they have already changed their box design to make it easier, so hopefully anyone buying one in the future won't have this problem!  The two things I like best about this unit are the fact that it is plug in, but has 4 AA batteries as a backup & the lat/long function that means I never have to change the times.  I can't wait to see if it closes at 8:59 tonight!  This model costs $200 and has the automatic function & the straight timer function.  Their basic model is $180 & just has timer.  No light sensor on either. We'll see how it goes.

so by now you are probably saying to yourself. "I am sure glad I bought that door" LOL

You are correct! Last night I went out at dark to make sure the door closed & I had my young dog with me, so I didn't open the man door to see if they were all in, just checked the pop hole. Now I did not see any chickens in the pen, but was a bit distracted. I did worry a bit later, as I usually go in & do a head count, but all was well this morning! I was up at 6:30 the last 2 mornings & the chickens were happily in the run both mornings. Some mornings I don't get out there until 8 & now they open at 6, so I'm sure they are enjoying the extra 2 hours running around.

Has anyone used the chicken guard with a regular wooden door? Or has anyone dealt with a bigger pop door opening than the chicken guard aluminum door?

I have the Deluxe model it has the 8lbs pulling motor. The wood door I did have would swell in the winter and would hang up. If you watch my video I posted on this thread you can see I used a cookie sheet works like a champ. If you do decide to use wood make you get the deluxe with the stronger motor

Thanks very much for the info. Did you use your own door runners or did you buy the English Oak ones from the company?
