Chicken Breed Focus - Welsummer

My welly is not laying yet and she is 26 weeks as of last Saturday. I haven't seen any dark brown eggs, speckled eggs. We did get a egg that is and looks like almost a white color. The only one that would lay this is my Hens but, them being seven years old they don't usually lay until Spring like previous years. They could be laying because the pullets are laying except welly. Any ideas?

A few comments here have indicated that they can be between 6 to 8 months before they begin to lay. 26 weeks is roughly 6 and a half months so you might have a bit longer to wait.

I like the look of the roos, so much so I ordered one with our batch of chicks this past spring. Much to my dismay he’s 7 months old and entirely red except his tail and some partially black feathers on his breast. Oh well maybe next time...

my wellies have started laying :ya, and one is laying whoppers!

sometimes speckled too - it will be interesting to see what they are when the laying process and works settle down.

I hatched my first Welsummer on the 23rd of March. sadly she (as I call it) was the only one to hatch from 4 shipped eggs, another quit half way. I'll be trying again in a few months.
It's from a breeder who is trying to work on egg colour here in Aus so hopefully if it is indeed a pullet it will lay me some nice eggs.

She’s Purdy.

My Welsummer is indeed a pullet! I hatched her along with some OE chicks but have decided to make a coop/run of just welsummers. I have arranged two more ladies plus this handsome guy
