Duck Eye Infection??

Lately my Pekin has had darker almost brownish coloring around, now both, of his eyes! Does anyone know what this is? Does he have an eye infection, is he just dirty, or will this go away??

Does he have any other brown on his body or just near the eye area?

instaclove, is there any foaminess around the eyes? Is he mouth breathing at all? Is there any gooey discharge? Can you wipe anything off?

If you can wipe something off, I would consider dropping a little hydrogen peroxide on what you wipe off and see if it bubbles. Generally, bubbles indicate an infection. But I also know how cooperative my ducks would be with anything like that. Not very.

Does the duckling have a way to wash his or her head frequently? Might it be some kind of dust staining around the eyes?

The duck doesn't have any other brown on him. His eyes aren't drippy or anything strange like that. It's just darker around both eyes. And we let him swim in the bath tub for awhile everyday so he had access to water besides his main water supply.

Frankly, i have never had a breed of duck that has so many eye troubles as Pekin.. so my advice keep a bottle of Poly for eyes, it works! i have a 2 out of my half dozen who all of a sudden get problems and this has been there since they were ducklings, and they have BEYOND enough water to dunk and clean them.. i think they are just prone to it.

What is Poly? We have a Pekin and a harlequin and a previous Pekin who died unfortunately but the one who died and now our harlequin both had/have issues with their eyes 🤦🏼‍♀️
 
They always need water deep enough to clean an dunk their heads very important to keep nares an eyes clean. And if you ever think one may have an eye problem if dunking doesn’t clear it up there is Terramycin eye ointment that will help.
