They are taking my chickens away.

I am wondering why no one is suggesting the OP utilize in their fight the 14th Amendment of the Constitution which protects the right for citizens to provide for their own food and that the government is prohibited from taking that right away. I would say that would be the only necessary step to take in this gov't over-reach. Am I incorrect about this? It seems pretty clear cut to me....unless the OP is neglecting care which might cause a stench for neighbors, there shouldn't be an issue and the council needs to back off.

Referencing an older forum I just found that has lots of great information on that.

Around where I live you can only insist on your right to keep livestock and poultry in areas zoned against them if you own at least 5 acres. With 5 acres you can claim farming rights. A local goat farmer told us about that when his neighbors tried to have his goats removed. He also threatened to start raising pigs if they didn't stop raising a fuss. City people are surprisingly quiet when farmers threaten to raise pigs.

Thankfully, the township we live in isn't zoned so we don't have to deal with idiots. The city people try to come in and change it until the farmers start talking about bobcats and cow manure. Pointing out that all of the existing farms and auto junkyards would be grandfathered in also makes them squirm. They never stick around long anyway. The first time they hear a coyote the for sale signs go up.

(I do like the nice city folk. I don't like the ones who complain about the animals and turn their noses up at the farmers.)

I was also unsure of the Chicken Poop name. Most city people are unaware of the benefits of chicken poop. They'll think dirt and disease not cute and fluffy.
