Bad eye infection, swollen eye

I have been doctoring my little polish pullet for over a month now and finally broke down last week and took her to the vet. At first, I was putting Neosporin in her eyes with a shot of LA 200 .5cc. I was cleaning her eyes daily with baby wipes, just kind of pushing the infection out of the eye. Didn't phase it.

The vet said, don't put Neosporin in the eyes since it is topical. She washed her eyes out with saline and gave me Ofloxacin .3% 1 to 2 drops in each eye per day until the drops are gone and SMZ 240mg suspension to give her orally until it is gone. Dose is .4cc. Her lungs were clear which was good. $92. I also bathed and made sure she was really dry. It's been a week and I don't see much improvement. She still eats, drinks and I have her isolated with another pullet that is healthy, but born the same time as her. The other one is a survivor of the fowl pox, so not sure if that is why she hasn't caught this, but they are very happy together.

I just started trying to push Greek Yogurt on them today. I will continue with the medication and the yogurt to see what that does and keep you posted. Just hate to see people spend a bunch of money at the vet when you can treat yourselves.

OK ive had this it can spread to the other chickens inject antibiotics into thigh or breast. It will resolve.

Latest update. My "Baby Ruth" is doing much better. I don't know if it was the antibiotics finally kicking in after about 10 days or the yogurt, or both. Her eyes are much clearer and less infection. I am still cleaning her eyes twice a day and will continue to feed her the yogurt and finish the prescriptions. I forgot to mention that I am keeping her and her sister in a separate cage with a heat light.

I think she is going to recover.

That is great news. Thanks for the update and good luck.
