Ok so I have 2 call ducks and both of their wing feathers are frayed, I have only just noticed it but they have had mild-ish wet feather for about 2 months(still haven't found the reason) my chickens feathers are also frayed. I have checked them for mites/lice and see nothing but as you know you any see much through the thick down! I have also checked the chickens and see no lice/mites.

How long has it been since they molted? Some of my Runners and Buffs can start looking a little worse for wear if it has been a long time.

You might start now adding some supplements to their diet if you don't already. Maybe just a tiny bit of extra protein, a little flax seed meal, some vitamins with probiotics . . . in anticipation of molt, so they can grow in some nice new feathers.

Well, they hatched in November and molted into their adult plumage around the beginning of February. I don't they would be dye a molt yet would they? And in summer?

My Runners molt whenever they feel like it.

Something is either lacking in the structure of the feathers, I would think (not a criticism of you - but duck dietary needs seem to vary quite a bit based on what I read on the forum).

Also, they may be batting their wings against something, or chewing on them due to some kind of irritation that may not be a parasite, might just be dry skin or environmental irritant.

ok, i think it may be their house as they like too sleep by the wall so their feathers probably rub against the side,i will keep you updated.
thank you for your help

Did you ever figure it out? My ducks feathers are fraid and moist. My chickens are fraid and missing just at the base of there back before the tail feathers. I don’t see any lice Or mites. It’s clean other than some dry flakes, like dry skin.
