I just moved chicks outside but normally the weather is about 72 degrees at night and in the high 80s during the day. The humidity adds about 10° "real feel." I do not currently have a heat lamp on them but I do have about 5, 3 week old chicks in the bunch of my 21 chickens. I have anywhere from age 3 weeks to 5 weeks. They pant during the day and huddle together at night. Do they need heat anymore? Or are they getting enough by just body heat at night? I know they definitely don't need it during the day! My original concern was them being too hot outside with this coastal weather!

Let me add, the majority are feathered out besides my 2 blue silkies! They are only 3 weeks old.

Your silkies might need alittle additional warmth until fully feathered. I used a seeding mat just to raise the temp about 10-15 degrees,at about 41/2 weeks they were fully feathered and i removed the pad.
