June 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Thanks for all the calming...I am on day 20. I threw them back in the cabinet incubator. So, I contacted Brinsea. Waiting to hear back. I waited 8 months to make sure I had my incubation skills down before buying the big buck eggs. What a bummer to have an equipment malfunction. So far no action out of them. But, said my prayers for them!

My bantams are hatching though. One Mille fleur D'Uccle out and one zipping! They look cute!

Glad to hear everyone else is doing well with their hatches!!! Happy incubating !!!

Question for you experienced hatchers with shipped eggs. I've got eggs on day 14,some are in great shape with happy air cells and live wiggling chicks inside. I've also got a few with live chicks/movement, but the air cells are terribly saddle shaped and overly large, two have damaged membranes. I'm impressed that chicks are developing in there at all! I'm assuming I shouldn't be optimistic about those ones hatching however? Humidity here is 40%.

The big problem with air cells like that is pipping in the wrong spot. they will either drown or bleed out if so.

They need to be in a carton big end up for hatching.

Ok, so for days 19-21, no turning, increase humidity, place eggs in carton large end up, cross fingers. Is that correct? Anything else I can do?

I just finished a hatch with a couple of these. I had 2 assist 2 the started at the wrong end, but after all day there was no change.. one wouldn't have gotten out at all. It was all twisted in the shell. Now it has a crooked neck but It seems to be getting g better. The other 2.. one hatched on its own... the other was dead in the shell. Good luck! I mark those ones, normally I don't mark the air cell but u like to make sure they have as much room as possible

My last viable chick just hatched... but it's got this.. blob... on it. Now I've had yolks not fully absorbed and some sack hanging off before.. but not like this. Any ideas?

Yes, and watch where they pip. Make sure goo is not coming out of the hole.

Expect 25% of eggs like that to hatch.

Good to know! I'll keep an eye open. There are 4 eggs like that out of my 6-8 that seem to be developing, out of 27 shipped eggs. Now to read up on what to do if they pip on the wrong end.....

Thanks!

It is in Sally Sunshines guide to assisted hatching.

Good Luck!
