I have gloves on, do I just shove my hand in underneath her and lift up? And why am I so scared to do this? Lol!
Eta-there was some little chick feathers beside her and she was eating them? Weird

Okay so I don't see anything underneath her? I've loved her around pretty good in there but she's so stubborn she won't leave the nest :/ And the chick fell out again UGH

My beautiful broody Plymouth Barred Rock hatched out 4! I am SO proud.

Someone gave me 1 game hen egg and several Barred Rock eggs to incubate. Another person gave me 7 guinea eggs to incubate. All were set 6/19/15.

Last year my father in law tried to hatch out eggs in the incubator 5 times with out success. He gave up and gave me the incubator. Thanks to this site, my first attempt produced 6 babies.

Okay finally was able to grab her, the chick had fallen out again :/ So I grabbed mama and put her in the floor and gave her the chick, she quickly made a little nest and called the chick to go underneath her. Success!! But sadness too, once I looked into the nest there was a dead chick still in the egg and everything but the egg was smashed :( Oh well I guess one is better than none. It was hot yesterday, maybe it couldn't get hatched quick enough? Idk

Great picture of mama and babies! Congrats on the hatch! :>

Both mamas are out of their nests, chicks running around with the rest of the flock :) The other hen had two eggs in her nest still, weird, no cracks or whatever so I figured someone laid them after she got up, so I cracked them open gently to make sure, both were runny, no smell, one had a tiny dead baby chick and blood vessels etc, not sure what the deal is there? If it was her original egg wouldn't it smell by now? Anyone have feedback on that? Just curious I guess. And it's possible someone laid it while she was off eating these last few weeks?? Who knows.

Anyway, it's 2 healthy chicks and 2 healthy mamas <3 I'll take it! It's chaos in here now with everyone mixed in together LOL! I'm sure for seasoned chicken owners this would make them cringe, but to me I'm feeling blessed to have everyone mingling and my roo keeping guard :D

I'm gonna have to break one of my broodies, I think. I've never actually had to before, but she is driving me and the other birds crazy, and is starving herself to death - she is feathers and bone. I yanked her off the nest today to toss her out to get food, and whenever she's off the nest she walks around threatening everyone and starting fights instead of eating, and then she decided that instead of eating she was going to hang out next to the crate that Green has her chicks in. I thought maybe she just wanted a chick, and that if she had one she'd quit being crazy and eat. Nope, the second I showed her a chick she immediately did her best to kill it. She's feathers and bone, has only been sitting for a week and a half, AND keeps switching nests so she's nowhere near hatching anything, so it's time to get out the wire bottom cage before she kills herself.
