June 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Set my last hatch in the incubator last night. White Chanteclers and Chantecler/Maran crosses. Hatch day July 28/29.

Looks like at least 1 Isbar and 1 CL are not going to make it. Disappointing. Isbar chicks are beautiful. Waited a long time to get them. Maybe next year order some more eggs. Hopefully the 3 I hatched will all make it to adulthood.

Sorry on your loss...that stinks!!! Best wishes with the chanteclers!

My Isbars just started laying...beautiful olive eggs with brown fleck! Def a cool bird. My CCL haven't stArted laying yet...they are a smart bird a bit aloof. The little roosters are hams.

Thanks. Should have better luck with Chantys. They are of my own flock. Always have better luck with my own. Not sure why. Maybe its my perspective because you know you can get more eggs and they didnt cost me cash. I have wanted Isbars for a couple of years. Wanted some blues but all the chicks that hatched are black.

I bought mine from Greenfire. They sent mostly black but I have a couple blues too. The Blues are pretty but the blacks throw Creme or silver in their hackles...so handsome!

Lost a CL chick last night but surprisingly the rest look not bad except some started clicking yesterday. Added antibiotics to the water and buttermilk to their food. The isbar chick that looked bad has survived 3 days now. Ate some buttermilk and chick starter this morning from a straw. The test will be the next week. A little worried as i have to work today.

Everyone can raise their birds how they wish, but without knowing a proper cause of their sickness antibiotics are often overrated/misused.

Good idea with the buttermilk. In place of antibiotics, garlic is a great substitute. No withdrawal time, no germ-resistance, safe to use in small doses for a while.

It isn't your fault of the condition they're in. Isbars have been known to suffer from inbreeding depression. Hope the rest stay strong and healthy!
