DIY Candler for dark eggs without hiding in the dark with 110 volts swtiched LED lighting 8 x8x16

the top of the box will assemble like the bottom except there is no bottom . cut 3 pieces of 1x8 board- 7 inch's long glue and screw them together. cut another one 6- 7/8 inches long set it aside for now it will be the door. the top of the box can be 1/2 or 3/4 inch ply wood 8in.x 8in. square I used a 1inx10 in board cut to size. make sure you keep it square glue and screw the top to the 3 sides 1 side should be 3/4 inch back from the edge. place the top box on the lower box and install the 2 Draw tight latch's in the center of each side .to do this set the catch part of the latch to the side. with the latch open. position it where you want it to be .the screws should not be closer than 1/2 inch to the bottom edge . do both sides . now close the latch . with the box in it's up right position hook the catch on the latch bar and hold it as tight as you can toward the bottom of the box . mark and install the screws. the latches will be a little loose that's ok . take the door piece and draw a line 4 inch's from one side .remember you have a board that is 7-1/4 inch's wide and 6-7/8 inch's tall. make sure you make the mark from the edge of the 7-1/4 inch dimension. this leaves you 3-1/4 inch's fasten the hinges to the 3-1/4 inch side. fasten one hinge 1/2 inch from the bottom and the other 1/2 inch from the top make sure the hinge pins are lined up with the edge. check the fit of the door .you need a little clearance from the top and bottom if you like the fit screw the door to the box. measure up from the bottom on the 4 inch line 1-3/4 inch's make a mark this is the center of the hole use the hole saw and cut the hole. it works best if you paint the inside of the box black including around the egg hole after the paint is dry cut apiece of felt 4 inch's x 4 inch's and cut a 1 inch hole in the center. you want the hole in the felt to be smaller than the egg hole peel off the backing paper and stick it in place . I painted my box finish your anyway you like if you build a box post pictures on this thread . if you have question I'll be happy to help just ask.

go back to the first post for hinge and latch placement.

a couple of things I should add as I said earlier the latches will be a little lose after the felt has been cut for the egg hole cut 3 strips and put them around the plywood where the top box sits on the bottom box do not put one where the door is.You can get the the light fixture at home depot or Lowes the fixture takes a UC 10 bulb I use a 8 watt LED bulb. this you can at Lowes or order it on line.

Can I borrow that to candle some Ameraucana eggs? LOL

after finding the new fixture I built this box for Ravyn Fallen the pictures show how the fixture was used and how it works the box is scaled down from the first one but not by much the light box is not a tall or as wide with the smaller fixture I could have gone a little smaller here and there . however if the viewing box is to small it would be harder to fit the eggs in plenty of room for the egg but not the hand to hold them. If even one person built one of these all the crap getting these pictures on here would worth it .it is a pretty box all cedar
