I have a mixed breed bantam who has never layed an egg decided to go broody we moved her and the eggs to seperate coop which sits next to my big one her eggs didnt hatch as planned so I bought 5 4 day old keets n put under her they are 2 1/2 weeks now very good mom in the beginning but she seems to have lost a little interest shes still protective of them they eat n drink fine.on their own but hollars if shes not by their side she has been trying whatever she can to get out of her pen n seems to be trying to get back in the run with all the other hens with keets still being so young when is it a good time to seperate her from them and put her back in with the other hens in my big run I cant put the keets in there because our ee rooster has tried getting to them ever since he discovered them and we have 2 pretty feirce bantam hens that team up on everyone big or small

Hello and good question. What I do with the keets my guinea hatches is immediately take the keets inside to a brooder box. I keep them inside for 2 weeks then place them into a outdoor brooder box in the shed with heat lamp. At 8 weeks I release them to freerange until winter. My suggestion for you from experience is this, only hatch guineas in a incubator because they are to fragile for most hens to raise without dying. Take them from the hen immidiatly and put them in a brooder with a lamp. This makes it safer for the keets and easier on hens. I do not recommend letting any hen hatch keets because of how fragile they are. And never let a guinea hen set on her own eggs. All keets that are lucky enough to hatch will die in a week. The others will be abandoned before getting out of the shell.

I would put the keets under a heat lamp and let the hen go free. I've found it a lot easier to raise them myself.
