Pipd's Peeps!

Can you recommend a thermometer and hydrometer for calibration? The Ameraucana eggs are going to be on the way.

I can't recommend a hygrometer, I personally don't use one.

As far as thermometers go, I know that there are a lot of expensive ones for incubators that are super accurate and such, but I just use simple dial meat thermometers like this one (not my picture, pulled from a google search).

Since the dial goes from 0° to 220° F (though double check if you buy one because some don't!), you can calibrate it by using ice water and boiling water to see if it's accurate. There's a little nut on the back you can carefully twist to adjust it. Mine have remained accurate for years after just calibrating them the first time (though I check them any time it's been a while since they've been used) and have lasted a long time. If something happens, you drop it or something and it breaks, then they're pretty inexpensive and can be found at most grocery stores, so easy to replace. They aren't fancy, but they do the job. 🙂

Haha, well that does make it easier! :D I have three that I bought specifically for my incubators, but I dropped one and cracked the front of it so I can't use it anymore. It still appears to be accurate, but the crack is like around the edge of the dial so I can't read the temperature past it. 😩
