Hello everyone,
Well, I've only had chickens for a month now (I'm new at this), and it seems like we've had one problem after another. (Still worth it though, I
my
s). First one attacked another one so bad it had a big gaping open wound, neighbor now has "sassy attack chicken". Then one passed away from shock during transport. And now a week and a half ago I started seeing yellow poop from our 9mo old Rhode Island Reds. One of which was the one who was attacked. FYI... Wound almost completely healed! After my initial research, I thought it must be a bacterial infection, so I got some medicated feed (amprolium in it), and I've been feeding with this for about a week. The strange part is, they RIRs have perfect healthy looking poops all night long. I check every morning and I see NO yellow poop. :/ Then I let them in the run area (pretty clean area, plant and debri free), and I see them pooping yellow poops! I don't understand! To me it would make sence for it to be an infection because 2 birds have yellow poop, but only during the day?!
I also have 2 black silkies who run the roost. (All 4 are hens no roosters), and the RIRs often run from the silkies and go back into the roosting area. This being said, it is lined with pine shavings, and I am wondering if they are spending too much time in there pecking away at the shavings and eating too much of that stuff... I don't know but I'm baffled. We got all 4 from a local animal park and they feed the chickens medicated feed and give dewormer.. So they all have been on medicated feed prior to being here with us.
I can say that even though the medicated feed I am giving hasn't taken the yellow poop away, it hasn't gotten worse. Infact before the feed it was getting more liquidy, now poops are more solid, but still yellowish, and sometimes reddish brown, but only during daytime. What is going on? Heeeeelllp!
