Hello everyone,

Well, I've only had chickens for a month now (I'm new at this), and it seems like we've had one problem after another. (Still worth it though, I

s). First one attacked another one so bad it had a big gaping open wound, neighbor now has "sassy attack chicken". Then one passed away from shock during transport. And now a week and a half ago I started seeing yellow poop from our 9mo old Rhode Island Reds. One of which was the one who was attacked. FYI... Wound almost completely healed! After my initial research, I thought it must be a bacterial infection, so I got some medicated feed (amprolium in it), and I've been feeding with this for about a week. The strange part is, they RIRs have perfect healthy looking poops all night long. I check every morning and I see NO yellow poop. :/ Then I let them in the run area (pretty clean area, plant and debri free), and I see them pooping yellow poops! I don't understand! To me it would make sence for it to be an infection because 2 birds have yellow poop, but only during the day?!

I also have 2 black silkies who run the roost. (All 4 are hens no roosters), and the RIRs often run from the silkies and go back into the roosting area. This being said, it is lined with pine shavings, and I am wondering if they are spending too much time in there pecking away at the shavings and eating too much of that stuff... I don't know but I'm baffled. We got all 4 from a local animal park and they feed the chickens medicated feed and give dewormer.. So they all have been on medicated feed prior to being here with us.

I can say that even though the medicated feed I am giving hasn't taken the yellow poop away, it hasn't gotten worse. Infact before the feed it was getting more liquidy, now poops are more solid, but still yellowish, and sometimes reddish brown, but only during daytime. What is going on? Heeeeelllp!

Do you think these poops are cecal poops? These poops happen about every 15 poops and they look different - they are much more liquidy and tend to stink a lot more than a regular poop. If this sounds like what you are seeing, it is totally normal.

x2. Sounds normal to me also.

I thought of this possibility as well, but from everything I've read and pictures I've viewed I kept reading that bright yellow runny poop pointed to a bacterial infection.

Do you have a picture? It sounds weird to request pictures of poop but it really helps.

Yea, you need pics. Carmel or yellow colored foamy cecal droppings can be worms. Yellow urates instead of white mean somethings wrong also, just can't remember what. :p
Yellow droppings of the other kind, can mean a disease also, so you really need to take some pics.

The pictures I just looked at of chickens with worms, does not look like what I'm seeing. Also, if it were a disease I'm not sure why they would be pooping healthy looking poops all night long. I will try to get a picture in the am.

Thanks!

Well I'm happy to report there is no more yellow poops. Not sure if the medicated feed cleared it up, or if it was from a change in diet, etc. all I know is I have a happy healthy flock now! I now understand why it's rare that I see people like me who only have a few chickens. They are addictive, I just love them. :love
