Hi I'm new to this site and to the world of backyard chickens. My daughter's kindergarten class hatched one egg (out of 3) and we were the lucky ones selected to bring the chick home and keep it. So we have had it since the day it hatches (4 weeks ago). I am looking forward to our new adventure and to all the help I'll get from the wonderful members of this site.

What a darling chick, it does appear to be a boy, at this point - due to color of comb & development at this early age. Welcome to BYC.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chick.

Welcome to BYC!

Cute chick! I hope you can get some company for your bird. Chickens are flock animals and are happiest with other chickens.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. And if you haven't already, check out the Learning Center...there are a lot of articles there that can be really helpful.

Good luck to you!

Thank you everyone. Yes we are hoping to get our lil chick some company.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Love that chick in the picture. The way her head is cocked, is adorable! She like "did I hear treat?"

So glad you could join the BYC community! Congratulations on the (partially) successful hatch. It sounds like you're taking good care of the lucky chick. If you're wondering about your chick's gender, it appears to be a cockerel right now. Breed will become more apparent as the chick gets older. Good luck in finding it some friends.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have! We'll be happy to help out. Welcome to BYC and I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
