Excited to join in with other backyard chicken enthusiasts! We have a working group attempting to get out ordinance changed in favor of chickens, as pets, not livestock. Look forward to hearing from others who have gone through, or are going through, the process. I've started collecting materials with which to build our own coop in anticipation.

You will have more exposure, if you post on your state thread. Others may rally behind you.

Out of 338,000 members around the globe very, very few of them check out this thread. The people who are reading your post probably don't live any way near you. I hope you and your group will be successful. There is a popular thread called "People with house chickens," too bad some of them couldn't join up with you to show chickens DO make great pets.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. My wife and I were both raised in the great state of Texas not far from where you are (Blue Ridge for her, Greenville for me). In fact, when I was at Greenville High years ago we were in the same school district as Plano and played them every football season (usually losing to them).) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting chickens.

Glad you have joined us.

Small flocks managed appropriately are quiet and clean! There is a prejudice against them IMO from the vision of commercial poultry houses.

Wishing you success in the battle to change the ordinances.

I've just joined the group this morning; I'm from Plano, Texas and really wish we were allowed to keep chickens in the backyard. Is there a group to join near here (postcode 75025)? More immediately, I would like to acquire some WHITE baby chicks as a wedding present. The couple are experienced hen-keepers and have a safe, chicken friendly smallholding. Thank you, folks!
