What is in my chicken's eye?

I noticed earlier today that one of my 3 1/2 month old pullets had an eye closed. She will let me do just about anything with her so I opened her eye to look at it and noticed she had a white thing in her eye. It's not hard and it doesn't look like eye worm. And the eye doesn't look swollen, just watery (due to having this in her eye). Can anyone tell me what this may be and what I can do about it?

It looks like the blood was from someone pecking at her. I cleaned up the eye and had my sister hold her. She sat very still and let me pull it out with those plastic tweezers things. It looks like a maybe a piece of cracked corn from their scratch. It probably got softened from her eye watering. Thank you anyway.

Does it look like dried pus? Chickens may get eye infections or respiratory infections where pus forms in the eye, and will look similar. Does she have any signs of respiratory infection such as cough, noisy breathing, or nasal drainage? How does her head smell? MG and coryza can cause sinus infection that can cause pus in the eye.

It looks very much like pus to me, the cheesy exudate like found in bumblefoot. The cause may be gone already, but a saline rinse daily for a few days should help soothe it.
