Cochin losing feet feathers. Red and inflamed feet/legs.

I read that their legs can turn bright neon red from hormones when they reach sexual maturity. They can be sore and inflamed. (A respected DVM was to have said this).
My year and a half old black/blue cochin roo has had red legs since the spring and I thought it was normal. Then I read that could indicate mites so when he lost some feathers, I washed him well in a dish soapy bath like I also read. You submerge them up to the neck and keep ‘em in there a few minutes supposed to kill the bugs.Works in a cup on stink bugs so why not? My rooster didn’t like being caught but seemed to like his warm bath! We were outside on a warm day. He is a good rooster never mean but I usually give him his personal space! And praise him a lot and don’t look in his eyes. He is magnificent, black with shiny green highlights and super floofy.
I didn’t see any eggs so I dried him and sprayed his legs with vetrycin antimicrobial. I keep the coop clean so its not scald. They have a dust bath beneath that with fresh peat and ashes and diatomaceous earth. They range around the farmyard during the day and have many such spots.
It might be a combination of hormones and mites. But the others (15) which are a mix of breeds all seem fine no scaly legs. I do know cochins are more susceptible. Yet the four cochin hens look fine.
Anyway I was glad to read about hormones cuz I was pretty much stumped. Also he’s been sparring a little with his son so that could explain the missing feathers. Ahh chickens we love them but who knew that there was so much to learn! I am gonna watch him and if it looks worse I will def find a poultry vet to check him out!
