Hen not eating or drinking

Try treating her for coccidia. She is very susceptible .
I don't think it will be that. There's no bloody stools, and her comb and wattles are nice and bright.

This afternoon, I saw her walking around and drinking well, which is more than she's done the past 3 days. However, if it's a condition that keeps on repeating, it won't be fair to her to let her go on like this. It would be kinder to cull.

There are several different strains of coccidia that chickens can have. Only a couple of them cause bloody stools. One of the most common illnesses of chickens after changing their environment is coccidia. A battery hen will not have any immunities to coccidia.

Just a quick update: then hen recovered well from her illness on her own and is now as bright as a button and eating and drinking, although she's not much of a layer, we have had the occasional egg - but some have been soft-shelled. I took some time out to watch what was going on, and it seems that she doesn't like the layers pellets, so she fills up on corn and table scraps. This means she's missing out on the calcium they contain. I did give them their shells back, crushed and scattered, but I didn't see her eating that, either. I've now hit on the idea of adding crushed eggshells to their warm wheatgerm mash (which they all adore) and that seems to have done the trick.

Good news I,m glad she,s ok I know that by the time they are rescued they have had it rough and their eggs are not shop quality but they still good enough to eat

Sad to report that the chicken fell ill again and this time didn't recover.
