Hello! I am a new owner of chickens and was hoping for some tips on taking care of them.

I have 2 Americauna, 2 Black Sex Link, 2 Buff Orphingtons, and 4 others that I am not sure of the kind (will be posting pictures). I think they may be Barred Rock but I'm not sure. Glad to post pictures of any of them.

I would love pictures of what they look like when they're fully grown, how consistent of egg layers they are, temperament, etc.

Any information is greatly appreciated!!

I've never had Buff Orpingtons or Black Australrops but, I have heard nothing but good things about them. Australorps are good layers, Buff orps not so much. Buff orps tend to go broody - which means they will sit on and hatch (fertile) eggs and raise the chicks. I don't think you would go wrong with either of them. Both tend to be sociable and non aggressive.

You may want to post on your state thread and see is anyone is in your area. Chicken folks make great friends. The Michigan thread is a very friendly, helpful group of folks.

I have had Americaunas for over a year, along with Wellsummers. The Americaunas are beautiful and sweet. Each has their own looks, all have green legs and "cheeks". They lay the biggest eggs that I get. This is my first posting so I hope I am doing it right.

Thank you for the information. My Americaunas are about 2 weeks and already developing their "cheeks". They are very sweet so far and I hope I have the success with them that you've had.
