Thinking of calling it quits.

Also one of the four survivors is deaf.
I thought it was the most sound sleeping turkey i have ever seen but it acquired that skill by being deaf.
I have thought it was dead a few times already because it sleeps so sound and doesn't hear me when I come in the cope and had to touch it a few times to wake it up to make sure it was alright.

Can't believe it.
I was going to slaughter off the six hens and one tom that were my breeding stock tomorrow and this morning I went to the pen and a predator climbed the chain link and ripped through the bird netting on top.
Five dead, one severely wounded with only one escaping damage.
Its below freezing so my thinking was that all the bears have hibernated by now.
Only other option is a cat.
Tonight I will set up an ambush for it because it will come back to get the rest of the meat it left.
Happened before very similar and it was a bear. But it was still warm out then. It paid the price.

This season those birds really kicked my butt.
So place your bets now.
Cat or bear?

Gets even better yet.
Was down to last four birds from this spring.Gave a friend one for Christmas.
Was leaving the last three to butcher when I needed them.
Went there today to check the feed and the big tom hanged it self.
Its wing some how got stuck and tangled on a rope hanging where I would tie up the water feeder and died.
And then there was two.
When you think that things can't get any worst, look out because they can.

That sucks.

Is it now a matter of your butchering the two remaining before the bear returns?

Maybe go with Midget Whites behind barbed wire "lit" with household current?

A member who used to post a lot about his bear problems, Panner123, who lives in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, went so far as to dig bear pits which he'd camouflage and bait. Apparently even this method served only to snare a human trespasser (probably a burglar), but the bears "stepped lightly".

Sure hope the New Year will portend a change of luck for the better. A freezer full of bear meat, for instance?

:fl

The bear has gone to heaven.
Looked like a garbage bear which you don't want to eat.
Yes, electric fencing is about the only thing that works but you need a powerful one and a very good ground.
Other wise they will plow through.
