What temperatures can a Cornish X survive?

The hen in my avatar is a Cornish X that I am keeping--not for meat, I just received "him" accidentally.

It's gotten up to 96 degrees today where I live, and I haven't had a chance to check on him. He pants even at 80 degree temperatures, although he cools down when he gets a drink. He has plenty of water and he's inside a building, so the shade should help a bit.

Does anyone have a good idea of how worried I should be?

Thanks.

I live in South Texas so we get well over 100 degrees in the Summer. I had cornish x last Summer. I never lost a single one to the heat. I kept one til he died of natural causes at just over a year and it was chilly and rainy when he died. I let mine free range, had plenty of shade and tons of cool water but I was always nervous when it got hotter and hotter.
