Hi all,

I have a 1-yr old guinea hen that has decided to sit on a small clutch of eggs...luckily they were laid inside the coop so I don't have to worry about her being outside all night. Anyhow, I've been taking most of the eggs (we don't have room for another 20-30 guineas - I have 3 females and one male), but have left several in order to encourage my females to lay inside the coop inside of hidden somewhere in the woods...we dealt with that earlier this year but a critter discovered the nest, so they abandoned it. I'm wondering what kind of hatch rate we might have with them, if any, and if there's anything I need to do. She does appear to be getting up periodically for food and water and a walk, but for the most part is on the nest day and night. There's probably only 8 eggs in the nest.

Hatch rate depends on the health of the parent stock and how well the hen broods. Mortality rate of chicks is high.
Keep this hen and keets penned up. Often guinea hens are not good mothers and lose their chicks while wandering around. The chicks may not be able to keep up with the hen. Keets also chill easily and bad weather will reduce their numbers quickly.
