Well.....yes, dogs will be dogs, but laws are laws, too and they're necessary to keep the peace. It's unfortunate that the dog pays with its life when it ultimately comes down to human responsibility.
From my point of view, a violent dog that will attack animals may one day stretch to attacking children, so I'd rather it was handled before it came to that.
Hi..i am not trying to argue with you..but....just because a dog attacks another animal does not mean it will ever attack a human...unless there has been aggression shown from these dogs to a human in the past..they are probably just being dogs...if one of my dogs got out in the yard when the birds were out.....well, i'd have some dead birds....will my dogs attack me?...highly unlikely...(you can NEVER say never though..), because my dogs respect humans, but ....they would love to chase and kill any small flighty, squawking thing running around...its just their nature...
Dog will start with chickens, small live stock, And then a small child.
Killer dogs have no place anywhere. Yes chickens are raised for food, dog have been and still are raised for food.
So what makes a dog a better pet than a chicken.
When I first got my chickens one got out and my dog killed it while "playing" with it. He has since learned to be gentle (by using the command "easy") with the chickens and won't do any more than lick one occasionally. They are now his "babies" and he protects them. Just because he killed one once doesn't mean he'll do it again or that he can't be trained not to, or that he should be labeled a killer. On the other hand, he goes hunting with us and is trained to retrieve dove. Still, he now understands the difference between chickens in our yard and doves that he's suppose to fetch.
ETA: As far as people and children are concerned, he is the biggest baby in the world. Kids can play with him, sit on him, pull his ears and tail, and he just wags that tail and tries to lick them all over!

All dogs need to be trained, no dogs are born trained. Dogs can learn to be nice when trained properly. You dont even need to be a certified trainer. there is plenty of information online to "train a dog" I mean you can even learn training a dog by watching "Dog Whisperer" who knows a great deal about dog psychology. Dogs also cannot be compared to a chicken. A dog is a dog, a chicken is a chicken, they both have values and pros and cons. Dogs are breed to be loyal, volunteering at a anti animal cruelty club at our college, we find people that are cruel to their dogs that breaks our hearts. There was a man who repeatedly stab his dog for pleasure then bandage him up again. Every time the dog sees his owner he wags his tail...and licks his face, when we tried to take the dog away it cried and whimpered looking back at the owner while we were driving away. It wouldnt eat for days, we had to force feed him and put it on an IV so it wont get dehydrated... I can never forget this, thats why I will always defend dogs. I have never seen a evil dog in my life, I saw a fair share of dogs that misbehave, untrained, and scared. I'm not trying to offend anyone, just perhaps educating those who dont know 100% about dogs.
