Which are the top 2 best breeds for 4-h pigeon showmanship

It depend on what kind of showmanship you are noting, if worried you will lose them as they retreat from an inexperienced hand, I would use birds which have limited flight or Parlor Rollers and Tumblers which cannot fly.

Parlors, giant homers, meat pigeons, and fantails, in that order do best in 4-H i keep hearing on here and other places.
parlors can fly like rollers till three months and are greater ground rollers or tumblers when let fly until ground self by rolling out (they also can breed at three months unlike any other pigeon I've had seen or heard of so far. good luck and let us follow how goes!

We went with Parlors to start. It was quite a change going from chickens to pigeons, if a chicken gets loose they can be caught, not so easy with a flighted bird.
When talking with parents Parlors are my recommendation, with the amount of time spent working with the bird it would be awful to see it fly away. Once you get comfortable handling them, whatever breed you like! My favorite are the Modenas, my daughter says they are really bantam chickens, especially since I handle them like they are. She went with Mookies, the twitching creeps me out but she likes it.
