I just returned from a two-week vacation, which was wonderful however the person who was taking care of my animals including our chickens didn't do such a great job. Ok, she did a horrible job! We came home to find all the food and water empty and dry. It takes approximately 2 days for them to go through the food and water, even longer for the water to be dry, so I really have no idea how long they went without either. My guess is at least 3 days which breaks my heart. I am so heartbroken I don't know what to do. My girls haven't laid eggs in 3 days. Will they start to lay again or is the damage done? Please help!

Nobody will take care of your animals the way you do (if you care). You seem to, so tell that person you entrusted to go to hell the next time they need something from you. The best action to take would be to give poultry vitamin-electrolyte powder in drinkers for 2-3 days. Birds will cease to lay when stressed or suffering from ill health.
