Crooked Beak

I have a 1-2 week old chick who has a crooked beak that became noticeable almost immediately after hatching. It is getting worse and he doesn't like me messing with it. He drops some food but must be getting enough because he otherwise looks and acts normal. So, my question is, how often do I need to trim his beak, how do I do it without hurting him, and just plain, how do you do it? Poor little guy. Will he be OK? It looks kind of sever.

It looks more severe than our chick's beak. For the longest time she looked like she was eating enough. Sadly, she wasn't. I'm sorry.

I have an 9wk EE chick that has a severe crooked beak like yours. He is very small and underdeveloped compared to the others his age. I know he wasn't getting the same nourishment the others do even though he is active and happy. I started seeing the major diff in size at about 4 wks. I feed him a mash: starter crumbles, no-salt canned veg(cream corn, peas, potato etc) and add nutridrench. I also make him scrambled eggs a few times a week and once in a while use plain Greek yogurt for the mash. He literally flies up onto the bowl before I even have a chance to put it down!

Thanks for that. I was thinking I needed to try some soft and mushy things. I'm also going to try a water bottle. This little guy has gotten kind of pushy and jumps into the middle of the food and pecks away. All the other chicks back off and wait. I think he's just hungry all the time. Tonight, I soaked the chicks starter until it was soft, but he had no interest and the other chicks worked on it while he was flinging crumbles everywhere.

He will get it quick! Especially once you make it with something tasty lol! It should be like a thick sticky yogurt consistency so he can just lap it up. My other birds must just know because they barely touch it and let her go to town. Very sweet. Forgot to mention, you can file the beak down. A small Dremel works, just don't let it get hot :/
