Let’s face it, we love our chickens, but the early mornings and the rush back home to lock them away safely at night isn’t much fun particularly in the rain and cold. The good news is that you no longer have to!

With the ChickSafe automatic chicken coop door openers you can sleep in, go away for the night or on vacation and relax in the knowledge that your flock is safe from night time predators.
These are the only "all-in-one" automatic pop hole openers with an integrated timer and light sensor giving you total flexibility over how and when you want your coop door opened or closed.

On the light sensor setting the door will open at sunrise and close just after sunset. Just set it and forget it. But if you prefer to have the door open or close at a set time, just use the timer activation. You can also open or shut the door manually any time without affecting the next automatic cycle.
Just mix and match any of those settings. Whatever works for you. The ChickSafe openers are all about making your life easier and protecting your chickens.

The all-in-one design makes setting up a breeze - no messy wiring, magnets or limit switches to attach to your coop. Simply secure the control box to the front of your coop, tie the lifting cord to your existing door, set your opening and closing preferences and you’re away. And if you don’t have a door yet a sturdy aluminum door kit is also available.

Because the ChickSafe run on only 4 x AA batteries you don’t need to worry about running power to your coop or dealing with solar cells. Under normal use the batteries will last about a year, so it won’t cost the earth either. And in case you forget a low battery warning light is illuminated when it’s time to change them and a warning is displayed on the screen.

The ChickSafe openers are designed to perform all day, every day in all weather conditions, from minus 20 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit! They are the only openers with military grade electronics and coatings totally enclosing the circuitry, because we know weather and electronics are a bad combination. Packed with unique features and backed by a 2-year warranty they offer invaluable freedom and peace of mind.

$189 directly from them, and then the door kit is another $30. I looked at this one, but went with the ADOR1 - very happy with it so far.

Looks like its powered by ChickenGuard:

I love my ChickenGuard extreme unit its the most expensive addition to the coop but well worth the money especially when we go away not having to worry about a neighbour to check on the girls every night.

I keep reading about chickens coming the coop at dark. My girls found a tree limb they really like and roost on it every night. They won't come in. It doesn't do any good to have an automatic door if it closes them all out because they like a tree branch better. I have to go out and pick up each one off the limb and put them in the coop at night. There is no chasing or 'back talk' from them. They just like staying outside.

Thoughts?

I am new to chickens, but my girls have already decided to come in at night without any trouble. We wait until it just after dark to close the coop door. Our coop is very tall though and we used real tree branches as roosts for them. They also have 4 windows with hardware cloth and screening we leave open. I don't know if they come in because they like the branch, the windows, or they got nervous when some coyotes yowled. But the are only 3 months old this sunday and have been coming in on their own now just after moving into the coop/run area. GL with your girls.
