Yay! Half of the run is finished!! My hubby put a temporary roof on it so the chickens can use it while we build the last 2 remaining 10 ft side walls. We will be starting those this weekend and then can add the permanent roof. It will be metal roofing with clear tinted panels in the middle as a skylight type of thing. The chickens are so happy, the kids are too because now they can go in and play with the chickens. I will keep updating as we go. We still have to build their permanent coop once we get the run finished
.

Cool run! It is wonderful to have a run big enough for the birds and tall enough for people. You guys have done a wonderful job and the kids should enjoy it along with your flock.

Way to go!

Thank you we have put a lot of thought into this project and finally have something to show! I will update as we get everything completed.

I'd like to see your end results.

@girlsnammo , I see you have Wichita as your location...I'm a former Kansan and lived NE of you (around Topeka & Lawrence). Nice to 'meet' you!

the base is 12X12. I went with 1" PVC, 16" on center. In each corner I have a 4X4 post anchored and buried 2' deep. I also have three 4X4 posts supporting the arch. One on each end, one in the center. I used metal electrical brackets to attach the PVC to the 2X6 frame. I used two at each attach point. I used a pressure treated 2X4 to give stability to the PVC and attach the chicken wire (my girls are secured every night in their coop).

Northflchick yes we are in Wichita, I am pure Kansan my hubby is from California. Luckily the Air Force brought him here to me. Big city boy is being stubborn on moving out of town so I can have a real farm again. I will post more pics as we go. I need to post one of the inside so y'all can see the awesome shelves he installed for me on the sides of the run for when I'm doing stuff in there. Its nice to meet you too. I love Ks.

Mikepost we talked about doing a round top like that and had a very similar design to yours. We ended up going the way we did to accommodate my brothers. I have one that is 6'5 and another that is 6'4. Once we get the rafters and perminant roof on it they will be able to go in as well. He also made it so it bolts and unbolts so it can be moved across the yard for winter. I'm trying to talk him into a smaller one like you have to use for broodys and grow out. We can't make ours perminant yet. Hopefully he will get so addicted to the chickens he finally buys me my farm. I have a nice one with 7 acres not far from here picked out but we just moved so it might be a while.

Give him a little time...maybe chicken math will get him and he'll be the one pushing for more room/more critters, lol. Say "hi" to KS for me, I miss the wide openness of it.

Yours looks great! I'm 6'2" and have plenty of head space. My last hoop design wsd even higher. I built a 3'fence, then added the hoop on top giving me 11' clearance in the center. It held up to good ol' WI winters well.
