I've personally always been more into the hen discussions, egg-production, etc. when it comes to breeds. And I realized I can see a lot of hens and name the breed pretty frequently on sight. But roosters, hmmm never paid much attention. I saw my roo wandering the yard yesterday and thought he's been needing a little more appreciation from me. Maybe yours, too. Or maybe you've always known roosters and can brag away. I'd love to learn more and see your pics if you have them! What breed is your rooster? What is their temperament like? Is it consistent with the breed as far as you know? How many do you have? What else?

Whether you have a rooster or not, what do you think is the most stunning breed?

Here's my gentleman, Ragnar. (We live in a historically Scandinavian area, this the name :) ) He's a Cream Legbar and my only roo. He oddly only likes one hen. They're exclusive and inseperable. He's pretty active with her, though ;) lol but she shows no feather wear and doesn't seem to mind. Does anyone else have a flock where a rooster and hen pair off exclusively? I never heard of it.

How about a mixed breed? Eric is 2 years old, and he's still alive simply because he's so darn pretty. All his brothers got eaten long ago....He's a mix of Welsummer, barred Rock, buff Orpington and New Hampshire. The calmest, most docile rooster I've ever had. I've literally been on my hands and knees in the coop and he's never once made an aggressive move to me. He's great to the ladies, he loves to shake those big red wattles when he finds a treat for them. He's also been wonderful at raising up new birds, especially young cockerels. He's been living in my grow-out pen with a bunch of young bucks the last few months and he's taught them good manners, but known when to leave off and not injured any of them. We just got our breeding pens set up and he's getting some ladies back in with him tonight--a Rhodebar and CCL, to start with.

He sounds like a great guy! Look at that comb! My roo comes up to me each morning almost like to say hello and loves some sunflower seeds from my hand but he's a bit skiddish to come too close to me. I feel attached to him anyway, wouldn't part with him. I love how personable Eric is, especially for a rooster!

That is one gorgeous rooster. He's similarly colored to a Salmon Faverolle rooster, which in my personal opinion is probably the most beautiful of all the rooster breeds. Thanks for posting his pic.)

I don't have them anymore but here's my old pair of Red Shouldered Yokohama.
They were very much exclusive just like yours and the most 'royal' of all birds in their demeanor.
I tried to contain them so that they wouldn't mix with 'the common folk' but they where so flighty. Could fly over any height fencing I put up and could squeeze through any gap.
Luckily they just stuck to themselves and never went near the other roosters.

Wow! These gentlemen are all STUNNING!! My neighbors aren't all that close but they do hear my roo regularly, so I'm hesitant to add another, but after seeing all these guys it's so tempting to have another rooster in the yard and try another breed.

They're also all so unique from each other. There can be similarities in the appearance of hens between breeds but these guys are all so different.
