feather plucking, balding bird?

thanks all , im going with egg broken prob, mabey lack of contents but bits, she may have expelled most in the woods? and still thought she had to lay and died in the box? dont know, stinks, i dont want to that again, all others look good, im happy for that,

another hen dead on the nest, are these birds old?i have had them a year, they were given to me, dont know age, but again, purple comb i did get a way giant egg day before yesterday, and have had one with yolk on outside, ???? they were laying machines all winter, slow now? only 4 left out of 6 , manny pullets comming up i hope not disease,

A purple comb? That sounds like a circulatory problem. Maybe they have an existing problem that leads to the inability to lay eggs.

i dont doubt they are from same clutch the red sexlinks, but they forage all day and looked fine thismorning, im worried for my 8 week old pullets and roos next to them now, 2 dead birds doesnt seem like normal life?

I have a white hen with red comb and waddle. No rooster, although on hen thinks she is a roo. Bald spots sane round are on back. I see dark pink bare skin with quills, but no feather. About the size of a quarter. No mites or critters. Good layer feed with some cat food during molt for extra protein. Any clues??

'Quills' are pins feathers?
They'll grow out and sheath will be preen off to release feather you recognize.

If or when another of your flock dies, please do yourself a favor and chill the body immediately, then look for a place that will do a necropsy. You need to find out what is sickening and killing your flock.

Some of the symptoms sound all too familiar. When a ten-month old cockerel died, the only chick that ever hatched naturally in my flock, I had the local university agricultural lab do a necropsy on him. Prior to my finally euthanizing him, he had become very sick, his comb and wattles turning a sickly grayish purple, and he was having trouble breathing. It was found he had a two-pound liver.

The diagnosis was lymphotic leucosis or LL. It's similar to Marek's but there's no cure or treatment. You just have to hope the rest of the flock, who will all be carrying it, have built up resistance.

There's no knowing that this is what is killing your flock, but you need to find out what is.

I'm going to add that many of my chickens will just die one day, seemingly fine the day before, and I have found that about half will pass by age 4, and half will live up to 10, the couple of sex link birds I had both died younger, I think high production hens have a shortened life.
