Moving 6 hrs away, how do I transport my chickens?

Talkalittle - thaniks for the ideas.  I am pretty sure I am going the cardboard box route, but if I leave the tops uncovered I would have chickens flying everywhere.  I guess I could cover them with chicken wire fencing...

LOL. I didn't mean to leave the chickens completely open, just don't cover over the wire tops of the crates so as to leave plenty of ventilation. That would be a hilarious visual though. Imagining you driving down the highway with chicks perched on the dashboard.

Aart - lol the dust is a pain... This was my first batch so I followed the 'rules' more closely than I will the next time :) I did notice that the ones from the store feathered out quicker than the ones from the hatchery I received in the mail. They were a lot colder in the store for the first two weeks of their life and hence, their feathers came in a LOT quicker. Next time I won't use the light as much for sure.

Talkalittle - LOL right. Perched on my shoulder, in my hair, on the dash, etc. Wouldn't be a fun trip at all :)

Make sure what ever you put them in is level, no tipped back on the seat or they'll all end up squished to one side.

I moved my first flock of 6 adults/4 four month olds in one large dog crate in the back of my minivan(no seats, plywood on floor). 30 minute, stinky trip.
It was funny tho, they would stand up until I made a turn or took a curve, then they would all hunker down on their hocks until the road straighten out again, rinse and repeat.
