One of our chickens hatched a couple of eggs about a month 3 weeks ago and was doing a brilliant job of raising them amonst all the other menagerie we have here.
Gerald and Geraldine (geese) also hatched 2 goslings (we incubated 5) and are raising them free range.
Unfortunately about 5 days ago, I found a chick drowned in one of the water buckets we put out for the sheep, and then 2 days ago we found the other one drowned the same. There is no way those chicks were big enough to jump up in to the buckets on their own so we are thinking that they perhaps wandered too near the goslings, mamma chicken didn't notice, and Gerald picked them up and put them in the water. The geese often put sticks etc in the water so we thought it was a possibility. Of course the chicks were too small to get themselves out and although we are up and down to the area all day, it must have happenend inbetween times.
Has anybody had this happened before?
