There is literally NO ONE in my real world that will understand why I'm so excited about this, so I must share here.

Brought my 3 girls home to their new digs on Friday. I'd build the coop all by myself - pounded every nail, sawed every board. Friday night I put them up in their coop (raised). Sat night same thing. Et Cetera. In the mornings I'd open the door and lift them one by one down.

Tonight, I went out to check on them and THEY'D PUT THEMSELVES TO BED!

Now, if they'd just lay a dang egg we'd be in business!

And they came down the ramp today!

The person i got them from said they were expected to begin laying early august. They were purchased from a feed store so they didn't have the exact hatch date. I'm guessing 14-16ish weeks?

YES!!!
Always eases the chores and mind of a chicken keeper when chickens go where you want them to go when you want them to go there.
I have finally just reached the point where some young pullets(19 wks) have stopped trying to roost in the nests...now waiting for them to lay in them.

I was just explaining to someone last night that chickens are very low maintenance. They go and climb into the coop when they r ready for bed and I just go and close the door. They were so shocked

If you want to be clued to when to expect to see the first eggs, watch their behavior. When they begin to spend time "playing" in the nest boxes, tossing nest material all over the floor, you will know the first eggs will be coming down the chute in the next week or so.
