Howdy Belt - I'm here in Missoula and have sixty some birds most of which are Dominiques that I started with as chicks this spring as well. I am planning on breeding
them and having a modest egg business. I also have three Pearl Guinea which I alone adore, the rest of the family threaten to eat them or just strangle them. They make
me laugh no matter how noisy they can be, and really help protect the flock. I live in river bottom and they let everyone know when the raptors are about, and the airplanes
and the helicoptors and just about anything else out of the ordinary, real or imagined. They even recognize people. I adore turkeys - can't imagine slaughtering them personally
as they just are too much like pets, the ones I've been around anyways. I was just reading about white midgets being the best tasting as well as most personable. This site is a great
resource, but a little overwhelming.

chickenjim64, Belt is just southeast of Great Falls. A friendly community that we were blessed to move into a few years ago. Just love it out here!

Blueroot, I'd love to build my flock up as well. I've done decently selling my surplus eggs so far. Especially for those used to the pale, factory-produced eggs, my girl's bright orange-yolked eggs are a real and tasty change!

Hi all! My wife and I are checking in from central Montana. We live SE of Stanford about 12 miles. We currently have 11 pullets of mixed breeding (some Easter Eggers) that just started laying, and 2 older hens that are my mother in laws pets. It was 29 below this morning (15 below in the coop) but the girls are holding tough. Thank God for heat lamps! If anyone has a lead on Marans, Araucanas, or Ameraucanas.....please keep us in mind. April seems so far away.

Welcome kk! I am over in Conrad. We had the same cold snap you did. To top that off our power went off from 11 pm to 1am! I was worried sick about the barn cats and chickens. Heat lamps and heated pet pads don't do much good without power! I hear it is going to warm up in a few days. I don't know of anyone local with those breeds, but I will keep my ears open.

Hello! I am just outside of Helena! I have 14 chickens and 1 turkey...plus a horse, 3 dogs, 2 cats, a turtle, a fish, and a ferret we're trying to find a new home for! I'll have fertile eggs and/or chicks in the spring (actually I have the eggs right now) if anyone's looking for mixed breeds.

I'm not in Montana but I'm just across the boarder from you guys in Alberta, Canada! Its harder to find good hatchery here

Hello chicken Jim! It's nice to find all these chicken people here in big sky country. Now perhaps I can get my poultry fix here and let my husband find some peace..... he is wonderfully patient about this obsession of mine, but often cautions that too much chicken talk and he's going to revolt..... By the way, I am on the hunt for Welsummer chickens - I'll buy fertile eggs to incubate, chicks, or adult birds...
