You know if you all raise and butcher chickens to sell I'm right here right? I am in need of some! I would gladly take ten off your hands! Please consider it as I really want to buy fresh !

Hearferds what kind of chickens do you have? Are you doing chicks soon also? Have not seen you much, everything ok ?

I'm off to work, I have a guy coming to take my rooster today, I'm so happy he is going to put him with his flock. His rooster passed away last month. My boy will be the flocks night in shining armor lol. Have a good day everyone!

Thanks for the info, everyone....  about the red meat.  Kinda made me nervous as I've never seen red chicken meat before.  These roosters where.... ?? who knows what??...D.gif  The oldest one came with the bunch across the road and the young one was hatched in June, not sure who the daddy was to him, as I had 2 roosters at the time.  Probably his dad  was butchered along with him.  Not sure who the mom was either, as my one bantam hen wanted to set & I just gave her a couple of eggs and he was the one that hatched.  All my chickens free-range, so I guess this is why the meat was red.  Just wanted to make sure !!

Thank you again for the information.

so 11.00 a bird is a lot for a fresh chicken ? ( which I swear was a 20 year old bird lol) what does a fresh chicken cost these days?

When I used to buy chickens from the Hutts, I paid $5-$6 each, but they were really good and huge.  I think I'm going to try a few cornishx meat birds this year if I get my hoop runs done in time. I just don't like that you have a limited time in which to butcher because I just never know when I'm going to have the time, and doing it by myself, I can only do about 6 in a day.. I'm going to have to try to time it so they are not ready to butcher during haying season.

Haven't done anything yet ...   we'll be making our soup sometime this week, so I will let you know.  I'm not nervous about using the red meat now that I've been informed what's going on....  better to be safe than sorry!!

Hi Karla.

So far everything is fine just busy with work, milk cow and family.

I am looking at getting some started chicks from Azriel if they have some.

I have some RIR, EE's, SLW and BA's.

Tried my hand at making mozzarella cheese. It turned out great except I needed to add more salt. My attempt at Ricotta cheese flopped though.

Hey herferds do you sell your milk? I'm always in the market for fresh milk and cream! I got 4 gallon glass jars just sitting here empty! Where you located at? Gosh I have always wanted to try home made cheese, is it good ?
What's a BA ?
