Hi all, uglybloke (John) here, a quick question. It's 35c outside. What's the best way to keep my girls cool when the weather is like this...Cheers and thanks for having me...

Hi John, welcome to BYC!

Keeping chickens cool is a question that comes up frequently this time of year. Chickens tolerate cold better than heat so it's good you're already looking into how to handle that.

These are some of the things we do to keep our birds more comfortable:
* Extra waterers and frozen water bottles inside them so they can have a cool drink
* Hose down their run 2-3 times a day (some people set up misting systems)
* Lots & lots of shade, both natural and man-made
* Cooling treats like watermelon, cucumbers, grapes, etc.
* We keep ours in their run during the hottest part of the day so they aren't running around in the sun

Hope that helps. It's nice to have you here!

I forgot to add...we have a fan in their coop too. It's set up high enough to help circulate the air but not blowing directly on them.

Nice to meet you John. You can also put out shallow pans of water, some birds like to stand in them to cool off their feet. Cool feet = cool bird.
