I was in Vancouver last month and in an Asian market and bought a package of quail eggs. 24 eggs for $4. I have quail here at home but their eggs average 10g, the largest ever being 13.
I weighed these ones and the smallest was 14 grams and several at 16 and 17 so the day before I left to come home I bought a new Package and at home put them in the incubator.
I had no idea if they'd be fertile or how long they'd been in the fridge at the market but for $4 Canadian I figured I had not much to lose.
Well seven of them hatched. They are growing like weeds, and very robust. I intend on having these replace my current stock of quail.
What a great experiment that turned out to be.
A friend is coming down in a couple of weeks and I've asked them to bring me two more packages. :)

Who knew?
