When it rains it pours, just did my second necropsy this week, this time it was a mature Cameo hen. Turned out to be a gut infection, it got all twisted up and burst. Oh well, crap.

OK, I know this may seem unlikely, but:
I see that in humans there's something called renal vein thrombosis - a blood clot in the kidney - that can be caused specifically in infants by dehydration. I wonder if this could be what happened with your peababy?
Wow, so sorry! When it rains it pours, just did my second necropsy this week, this time it was a mature Cameo hen. Turned out to be a gut infection, it got all twisted up and burst. Oh well, crap.
Sorry to hear about your chick. But I applaud your dedication and thoroughness! I know some pea owners that don't even believe in vets and cut costs (feeding/housing) even when it's to the detriment of their birds. So I think you are a very responsible owner and your birds have a lucky lot in life.
I wished i had an avian vet in my area in case i ever needed one, you are lucky KSKingbee there are around 50 vets in a 120 mile radius and not one of them will see a bird of any kind, not even the exotic vets.
Well let me put it to you this way, vets around here issue a health certificate on a horse to cross state line into Louisiana just by looking at the horse and you give them 35 dollars as long as they have a current coggins, they then issue the certificate that is god for up to 30 days, not much checking going on at all, i can get the Texas animal health co mission to come out and test my birds for free in the month of September but i have to have them all penned and that will never happen here i finely got an accurate count for the end of the year and i have 60 peafowl not counting the babies and god knows how many guineas, oh and the 32 turkeys and the chickens, all i know i got 50 broodies LOLHere is an idea for you. Surely you have a county fair in your area, here in Kansas 4H and FFA kids show their birds at these fairs and it is also required that all birds are checked out by a vet and NPIP tested. If you contact the county fair officials or 4H, or FFA, maybe you could find out who that vet is? My vet is the one that does that work for our county fair and I know the State Fair is run the same way.
