Hi All,

I am a bit worried about my Ameraucana, she has they weird thing on her chest, she is 5 weeks old now. I didn't notice it with my other ameraucan, maran or even my silkie who is the same age as her.
Please let me know if this is serious or not. Also is she a Roo? She looks so different from my first Ameraucana

Thanks!

Are you asking about her crop, or the bare spot on her breast bone? Her crop area looks pretty full, and looks poofy in 2 places. Is her crop soft? Chicks who lie on damp bedding can get irritated breasts or keels. Your chick might possibly be a cockerel with it's pink comb and coloring, but more pictures or a little more time might be needed to judge.

Sorry not the crop! I looked that up before to make sure. I was talking about that bare skin area with the pointy skin?
Their bedding is pretty dry and I'm constantly cleaning it. Theres only one other chick in there too.

Chicks who lie down a lot and haven't started roosting can get the irritated breast bone. Breast blisters or infections can occur if the area becomes very iritated, or if the chick lies down a lot of the time. If it looks blistered, I would put some iodine on it. Are you using pine shavings as bedding? Hay and straw can be irritating, and retain moisture.
