I've read several of the threads about chickens that are sleepy and most suggest to separate and treat with corid. My sleepy girl was on medicated chick feed until she was 10 weeks old, which is when I got her (she is 15wks now). As far as I know, she's never been dewormed. I don't know if she has runny poop, but I know she isn't eating very well. At first I thought it was a bottom of the totem pole thing, but even with her separated she isn't eating. I'm on my way to TSC and need to know if I should get both medicines and if it is safe to give both at the same time? Since the rest are not showing signs, do I need to treat them? Should I switch them back to a medicated feed for the time being?

It could be a disease not related to worms, such as a respiratory infection. I would try the corid before the wormer, just because coccidia is more dangerous than most worms.

This is totally just a thought, but could taking them off the medication caused their bodies to change? Being on medication a long time and then ending it may cause problems, though this is just a guess, not a fact.

I hope she gets better soon. Best of luck!

Thank you for responding. She is not doing really well. She will not eat or drink so I am doing the concentrated Corid in a dropper method today. I also tube fed some liquid in her (that wasn't fun). I started all of the rest of them on the Corid at the moderate outbreak level. My sick one is in the house with us now.

I was wondering if I could use the deworming medicine as well? If it is safe to use both at once, I'd rather go on and do so.

Is the 10% of her weight daily?  She is right at 1kg.  So would that be 100 gm of water a day?

Yes everyday. If she looks thin, then do more. If it goes on more than a couple days, I think you need food too.

My birds lost a lot of weight and my vet told me to do 20% of the formula solution.

My buff Orpington is 920 grams and I fed her 60 cc, 3 times today. She is about ready to go back out. She is about 7 weeks.

Do you count the formula feedings as part of the liquid count? I have given her 30cc of electrolyte solution water twice today and about 30cc of formula right before we called it a night for my helper. Is that 90cc of liquid then or 60cc of liquid and 30cc of food? I really have no clue how much food to give her. I do have a 60cc syringe so I can easily go up if I should.

That sounds pretty good for today. In the morning, wait to see if she eats and drinks. If she does not eat or drink then you may have to tube her again.

Eating and drinking doesn't look like it is going to be happening first thing this morning at least. She is still too exhausted to stay awake. I dosed with .5ml of safeguard this morning. I think I am going to mix her tubed food with the corid and electrolytes.

Feed her anyway. If you have to hold her upright, do so. I have my chick propped on a rolled towel on her LEFT side so she doesn't regergetate.

@casports told me to just give formula as it has everything you need. You can mix with the Corid water.

My birds didn't gain any weight today, so I am increasing amount today.
