  • Good luck with this little chick! If you need any help with him and if there is anything I can do, let me know. Keep me posted! :)
No, I did not vaccinate. At this point, all the chicks in your brooder have been exposed to AE. I never had any other birds catch this. I can't remember if they are carriers, but I have not had any issues. Did you get these chicks from a hatchery? Nearly all hatcheries vaccinate for AE right after hatch before shipping. But sometimes the vaccine can cause them to have all the symptoms of AE but not actually have it. I ran with this and hoped for the best.
I didn't have any tests done on this bird, but she had every symptom of AE and followed the exact course of healing. There aren't too many diseases that cause trembling in week old chicks. Supportive care is what saves them. So get food and water into the baby to keep them alive while they heal. Took my baby about 1 1/2 weeks to stop trembling but it was months later before she caught back up to the others in growth and wellness. It was a slow progress. She has laying issues, just as described in AE articles. She is 3 now and can't put a shell on an egg if her life depended on it. LOL She started to develop cataracts but they stopped at 1 year old. She is a very cranky bird too. Not sure if that is due to AE or just her personality. LOL I hope you can get your baby healed up soon! PM me if you need too. :)
