Sebrights - The Pippa Story

pippa

Sebrights are one of the true bantams.

There is no standard (large) version of the breed.

The breed was developed by Sir John Sebright early in the 1800s

and has the distinction of being the only breed of chicken named for an individual.

Males are hen-feathered.

Sebrights may have silver or gold lacing on their feathers.

pippa

Pippa is a Golden Sebright with black lacing on a background of golden brown.  She was hatched August 1st, 2007.  She lives with her big (standard size) sisters and likes to steal treats from them.  She is cocky and independent.  She doesn't like to cuddle, but she will sit on your hand or on your shoulder and eat your hair (or pick you in the eye).  Pippa loves to talk- she is noisy, she makes a continuous chirping noise, kind of like a truck backing up-just to let you know she's there.  Or she crows like a rooster.  Like a rooster that lays eggs Surprised.  Silly Girl!

Summer 2008 - Pippa is full grown!  And very active.  Out of all the chickens she is by far the noisiest!

Pippa lays on average about 3 eggs a week.  And when she needs to lay an egg - watch out! - she is super noisy and crabby.
